L-type Ca2+ Channel BlockerThe biological activity of Calciseptine is examined by the Division of Pharmacology, Peptide Institute, Inc. Calciseptine is a neuropeptide toxin originally isolated from the venom of the african snake Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis polylepis). It is an unusually great peptide toxin with a molweight greater than 7k. Calciseptine blocks specifically L-type Ca2+ channels and shows no activity against N-type and T-type Ca2+ channels. On the other hand, Calciseptine blocks spontaneous K+-induced contraction of cardiac and smooth muscle cells.
